On top of this, a brushless DC motor will outlast its AC cousin by 2 to 3 times.

The Sun Saver solar power pool pump is equipped with a low voltage 48 volt 600 watt DC motor. Electricity is supplied by four 190 watt panels (760 watts). The power is managed by a specially designed controller that utilises MPPT technology. There are no inverters, just straight DC current from the panels directly to the pump, which means losses are minimal. The system is so efficient that it will continue to run even on partially cloudy days.
